Avery Sunshine has a unique style which combines R&B with gospel, soul music, and R&B. Avery Sunshine's performances have been on Broadway and at festivals in Europe, as well as the Democratic National Convention. Sunshine Her real name has been given as Denise White. Her birthplace is Chester Pennsylvania, where she began her career in music by playing piano and singing at church. She was a student at Spellman College in Atlanta where she started her journey into music within the Atlanta's R&B scene. In 2005, she was commissioned as the lead keyboardist for Tyler Perry's stage play Meet the Browns. Jennifer Holliday, a Grammy as well as Tony Award winning vocalist who was part of the stage production Dreamgirls at the National Black Arts Festival of Atlanta in 2007, contacted her to serve as the director of the choral group for the production. Sunshine was brought to the attention of the nation during four performances per day at 2008's Democratic National Convention. Sunshine then went on to be asked to sing in the presence of President Barack Obama at his inauguration.
